University of Kerala is located in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram. The mother University of the state was established in 1937 by the visionary educationist Shri chitrathirunal Balaramaverma. The picturesque 250 acres campus houses 15 Faculties, 41 Departments, with several centres of research for specialist areas. Now the University is accredited with “A” grade by NAAC and in 20th position in NIRF  ranking. Teaching, Research and Knowledge extension are the mandate of the Departments. The University has had in its faculties eminent scholars who were trained under legendary figures and also some of the faculty members themselves were legends. The total number of full time students in the University Departments is above 2000 including research students and a modest number of foreign students. The University has over 150 affiliated colleges. The Institute of Distance offers a number of under graduate and post graduate programmes which cater to more than 7000 students, all over the country and abroad.

Department of Botany

Dept of Botany was established in 1959 under the leadership of Prof. A. Abraham and it was internationally renowned for the works in Cytogenetics. Since its inception, the Department has maintained a very high profile in teaching and research in Cytogenetics in the Country and provides a novel M.Sc course in Genetics and Plant Breeding, M.Phil in Advanced Botany and Doctoral works in the different areas of plant Science such as Plant Systematics, Cytogenetics, Plant Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Phytochemistry, Plant Reproductive Biology and Seed Physiology. In recognition of its outstanding performance and achievements for over more than half a century, the Department was chosen by the UGC for Special Assistance (DSA) in 1972, COSIST programme in 1984 and FIST in  2008

About the Conference

The emerging trends and techniques has made the study in Plant Biology one of the most exciting areas in science. In the field of Systematics, Cytogenetics, Molecular Biology and Plant Biotechnology very rapid progress has been made on a number of frontiers in recent years. Likewise, besides fundamental uses in unravelling the mysteries of nature, plant science researches have immense applications in development and the well being of mankind. The advent of genomics-based technologies has provided the ability to address biological problems in an unimaginable way. Over the past few decades rapid developments in genomic and other molecular research technologies, biotechnological approaches and developments in bioinformatics have combined to produce a tremendous amount of information related to plant science and indicates the importance of sustainable utilization of Plant diversity. In view of these, “Provectus Plantae-2019 International Conference on Exploring the scope of plant genetic resources” is being organized to promote dissemination of knowledge by providing opportunity to researchers and scientists to present their research findings and have a face to face interaction with fellow researchers working on the same or related scientific disciplines all around the world. It is a matter of great pleasure to invite teachers, researchers and students to participate in the Conference. Full paper of the selected abstracts will be published in ISBN book/ISSN journal.
